Over 200 Indians, who were working in the UAE and had to return home due to the pandemic, have lost goods worth almost Rs 20 crores
"My husband, who is 68 years old and a heart patient, has still not recovered from the trauma of the loss. Sometimes he starts screaming about how we have lost everything. I can’t fully express what we are going through," says Arsila Yesudasan, 56, from Thiruvananthapuram. "Even after spending three-fourth of our retirement money to purchase basic items to settle in our homeland again, he doesn’t even own a good pair of trousers now to go outside of the house."
When her husband J Yesudasan left his job at an engineering consulting firm in Dubai in January last year, and had to leave the UAE after working there for 42 years, he blindly followed the advice of an acquaintance about shipping his stuff back. Before leaving, he handed all his belongings – worth Rs 13.62 lakh and over 3,000 kg – to Ruby Cargo, a packing and moving company, which has been operating in the UAE for nearly four decades, to have it sent to India.
